Education Banquet 2008
The MEED Center, in partnership with the Greater Dallas Asian American Chamber of Commerce (GDAACC), held our 16th annual Excellence in Education Banquet on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at the Intercontinental Dallas Hotel, Addison. United Central Bank was the signature sponsor for the 4th consecutive year. Texas Banking Commissioner, Randall S. James delivered the keynote address.

Excellence in Education Award Recipients
Each year, we recognize Asian American high school seniors in the DFW Metroplex for their outstanding academic achievement and community service. High school seniors are nominated by their principal or counselor and are invited to complete an application which includes a short essay.
This year’s award recipients are Wajiha Khan, Jaclyn H. Le, John J. Lee, Michael J. Lee, Tyler C. Liu, Jonash A. Loh, Stephanie O. Nguyen, Thu K. Nguyen, Joohyun Oh, Reena A. Patel, Angelo G. Ramirez, Waziha Samin, Najam A. Siddiqui, Sally Tam, Christopher T. Trinh, Aivy H. Truong, Khiem T. Vu, and Anthony L. Xie.
There are two additional award winners that are announced during the banquet. The Jerry Junkins Memorial Award was established in memory of the late Jerry Junkins, former chairman of Texas Instruments. It recognizes contribution to the community and this year the award went to Jaclyn Le. The James Yoo Award was created in honor of James Yoo, the current Chairman of the Board of United Central Bank. This scholarship recognizes the outstanding overall performance of a student and this year's winner was Christopher Trinh. Both these awards carry $1,000 prizes.
DCCCD Scholarship Winners
Dr. Wright Lassiter, Chancellor of the Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD) presented scholarships to students starting their college education at a DCCCD campus. This year's scholarship winners are Date Chin, An Lu, Duy Nguyen and Lisa Nguyen.
GDAACC Leadership Tomorrow Graduates
This year, 25 professionals participated in the GDAACC's leadership development program, Leadership Tomorrow. The program was created to develop the leadership skills of emerging Asian American professionals in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. This program aims to enhance the skills and awareness of well-rounded leaders who will improve the community.
