Kids Festival 2010

This year, MEED Center proudly co-hosted with the Women's Southwest Federal Credit Union (WSFCU) the 5th annual Kids Festival on Saturday August 28, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.  We had a turnout of about 500 people.

The event was a festive affair that included face painting, games, and Thai classical music performance by the Chao Phra Ya, health and safety vendors and giveways by Parsons, Ryan Thebeau State Farm Agency, Parkland, DISD, DART, City of Dallas and Conceptors Marketing

We distributed 770 backpacks to students in local schools in our neighborhood: Cesar Chavez, Zaragoza, Fannin, JFK, JW Ray, Bonham and Spence Middle School.  The backpacks were purchased using cash donations and most of the school supplies were donated.

Parkland Hospital's CareVan gave free immunization shorts.  The "dance competitions" were a hit with the children as well as parents.  Those that participated got a prize.  No attendee left the festival empty-handed.

Generous contributions were received from Rollins Construction Services, Inc. and WSFCU.

This wonderful grassroots event would not have been possible without the effort and commitment of numerous volunteers.  Our planning committee began preparations in April; soliciting funds, vendors, picking up supplies, stuffing backpacks, and setting and cleaning up on the day of the event.  Thank you all!
